Description
I added some barn wood texture to my dad's four seasons hex design. Based on traditional Pennsylvania Dutch hex signs painted on the side of barns in Pennsylvania, Ontario and many other Mennonite communities, these folk art heraldry symbols were meant to protect, bless and represent the owners of the farm and to welcome visitors.
An important part in the culture and traditions of the German settlers that created their new home in America and Canada in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries were the folk art style designs referred to as hex signs. This four seasons hex is a symbol of the seasons of life. The three spring tulips symbolize faith, charity and hope for the new season and better future. A yellow sunburst with blue raindrops represents the happiness of summer and glory of life. The autumn sheaves of wheat are a sign of fruitfulness and plenty. The white snowflake on a dark blue background is a symbol of winter purity, protection and comfort. All four divisions are enclosed in a black circle of strength and a white circle of peace.
This would be excellent as an art print, print on wood or canvas print for your traditional or updated country kitchen decor.
