Painting - Oil On Canvas
Description
This is the right side oil on canvas painting of a triptych work of art commissioned by my New York NY client who lives on a golf course. As requested by my client, the painting is based on the famous Ben Hogan swing series photographed in black and white by Yale Joel in 1955. He requested that the three paintings be in grey scale black and white which now hang on a feature wall in his penthouse.
In the high resolution images that I licensed and downloaded from Getty images to use as reference, you can see the seam in the black screen background that photographer Yale Joel had erected which appears as dark grey because of the sun or studio light shining through. In order to have the black and white details of the Ben Hogan figures stand out, I wanted to create light and dark nuances in the backgrounds without making them look like a screen. I decided to paint these subtle differences in tone as early morning rising mist in each background. This also serves as an expression of air turbulence from Hogan's powerful swing. I painted a closer, more intimate look at the golfer than the Yale Joel photos project. The figures themselves are painted in artistic oil painting style yet are true to the photos in stance, detail and composition.
Each original oil painting in this triptych is 30" wide x 40" high. All three oil paintings in this triptych stretch a total of about 9 ft (with the spaces in between). Visit the other two oil paintings in this series (also in this gallery). Each painting in the triptych can be ordered separately in many sizes. Buy one print or collect the entire set of three!

Fabulous painting of the legendary Ben Hogan. Outstanding light and shadows. I love the small tail on the ball which gives a wonderful sense of movement.
