Description
Using a digital manipulation program, I added the mist in the foreground to turn this into an early morning scene. The painting without digital manipulation (Three Amigos) is also available in this gallery.
I painted this watercolor of three Westerns on a hill by referring to three different photos. Their owner said that the top of this hill was the favorite spot of these beautiful horses and they would gather there every day. When I went to take photos of them to use as a reference for my painting, I was delighted to find them on the hill in a perfect scene as I drove up the lane; however, as soon as I got out of my car to take photos, the curious horses immediately came to greet me, probably hoping I had an apple or carrot for them. I missed my perfect shot and after a quick "hello" pat on the muzzle, I had to ignore them and wait patiently until they finally decided to return to the hilltop. Even so, the poses of the three animals were never perfect at the same time. After snapping a camera-full of photos of them, I chose the best photo of each horse to compose this painting.
