Description
I added some more color in the background of this acrylic wall mural using a digital manipulation program to offer this image as canvas and art prints for baby nursery and child room decor.
Originally, this little raccoon on a swing is part of the 3-story, 40 ft. high, 100 ft. long wall mural that I painted for Maple Preschool in the Toronto area. My assignment was to paint a wall mural on the drab concrete and cinder block walls of the rear entrance stairwell that leads from the parking lot, where parents unload their children, to a wonderful bright church basement daycare facility with large windows at street level.
To make the stairwell less daunting and more inviting for young children I decided to create a fantasy woodland creature mural. With an enormous maple tree that spans the three stories and branches that circle the stairwell, this Furry Forest Friends mural seemed appropriate for the space. In my attempt to transform this area into a fantasy woodland scene, I had so much fun that I think I got carried away.
The upper branches of the tree on the third floor of the winding staircase, where the entrance door from the parking lot is located, are populated by birds, raccoon on a vine swing, hopping owl, a bunny doing tricks on a tall leaf, a turtle on a teeter-totter leaf, and butterflies. On the way down to the second floor level are a little friendly skunk, a happy blue bunny dangling from a tree branch and two beaver buddies lounging on huge leaves. The second floor landing includes friendly bunnies, one peeking from behind the tall grass, one peeking out of a hole in the tree trunk, one sleeping on a large tree root, and a little turtle on a toadstool.
The large roots of the maple tree lead to the bottom floor of the stairwell where I painted a pond with two dipping duckies, fish, frogs, snails, and dragonflies. The entire stairway is lined on each side with brightly painted flowers, ferns, leaves, vines an various woodland vegetation (about 100 ft. total length) designed to stimulate the children's imaginations and make them feel they are climbing down a hill in the woods.
